Design Narrative

108 Leonard Street is the most historically significant building in this collection. Designed by McKim, Mead & White — architects of Penn Station and the Boston Public Library — the 1894 Italian Renaissance Revival facade occupies an entire Tribeca city block. The restoration by SLCE and Beyer Blinder Belle was meticulous.

The Jeffrey Beers International interiors respond to the building's scale and historical character. Oversized crown moldings (historically accurate), arched windows, and 9.5–15 ft ceiling heights define the design field. The chevron oak floor in two palettes (ash light blond vs. medium gray) is the first design decision in any renovation.

The Scavolini kitchen — custom designed by Jeffrey Beers International exclusively for 108 Leonard — features a backsplash ledge detail that runs the entire length of the backsplash. The Calacatta Vagli marble is a high-clarity Italian white marble with soft grey veining, appropriate to the building's Italian Renaissance heritage. Notable residents include Nicole Kidman and Samuel L. Jackson.

Design Opportunities
  • Arched windows and restored architectural details require bespoke window treatment design
  • Two chevron floor palettes define the design register from day one — ash = contemporary, gray = traditional
  • Scavolini backsplash ledge detail is building-specific — embrace it or replace entire kitchen system
  • Crown Collection units with 15+ ft ceilings accept chandelier-scale custom lighting
  • Calacatta Vagli marble can be extended to bathroom renovations for material continuity
  • Historic landmark building — deep familiarity with board approval process required
